Account Creation Timeline

Students

  • Account Creation: IT will send the username and password to the student’s alternate email. Takes 1-2 hours after application review and completion by Admissions.
  • Access Granted:
    • OneLogin, Bay Navigator and Email
    • Blackboard Access: Granted after completing SOAR (orientation) or enrolling in a class.

Next Steps for Students:

Previous Applicants: If students applied before but never enrolled, they should contact the Registrar’s Office at (781) 239-2550 to enroll. Returning Students (inactive for 2+ years): Contact Admissions for reinstatement or Registrar for enrolling in 1 or 2 classes.

Bay Navigator Access:

Limited Access: Students can’t enroll in classes unless:

  1. Quick admits (not in a program) and already registered for a class.
  2. In a program – attended SOAR and met with an advisor.

Full Access: Granted after attending SOAR or registering for a credit course.

Employee

Accounts are created manually based on requests sent only by MassBay Human Resources to OIT.


Username Format

Students: First initial + _ + last name + optional numbers (for common names)

Employees: First initial + last name + optional numbers (for common names)


Student ID Number

New Students (Never Registered):

  • Where to Find ID: The student’s ID number is on the acceptance letter sent by Admissions.
  • If the student doesn’t have the letter: Direct them to contact the Admissions Office at 781-239-2500.

Active Students:

  1. Login to Bay Navigator via OneLogin.
  2. On the right column of the Bay Navigator landing page, click on the blue link labeled MassBay Library Card Number.
  3. The top number next to ID: is the student number.
Note: BBH can also provide the Student ID and username after verifying the user.

Self Help Password Reset

  1. Visit: http://massbay.onelogin.com/
  2. Click on Forgot Password.
  3. Enter your Username and click Continue.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to reset your password.

Self Help Password Change

  1. Login to http://massbay.onelogin.com/.
  2. Click on your initials in the top right corner.
  3. Select Profile.
  4. On the next page, click on Change Password.

Note: Student and Employee change passwords every 90 days.

Change your MassBay Password On Campus

Ensure the computer is connected via Ethernet or “Fac/Staff WiFi”.

  1. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL on the Windows login screen.
  2. Click “Change Password”.
  3. Enter your current password and then enter your new password.
  4. Confirm your new password and click OK to save the changes.

Note: If BBH agents receive a request to update or change the network account password on a Mac, escalate the ticket to OIT.


Password Reset – Off-Campus (MassBay Device)

If the user is calling from outside campus and using a MassBay-issued device:

VPN Required

  • The user must be connected to the MassBay VPN before a password reset can be done.

If NOT Connected to VPN

  1. Advise the user to connect to VPN first.
  2. If the user cannot connect or has technical issues:
    • Do NOT proceed with the password reset.
    • Create a ticket and escalate.

Password Policy Enforcement with Bitwarden

Students received an email from OIT regarding Bitwarden account setup. Bitwarden is a secure, open-source option for password management with end-to-end encryption, ensuring your credentials are safe and accessible only by you.

Bitwarden:

  • Offers a password generator for creating secure, unique passwords.
  • Includes password strength indicators and breach reports to help improve security.

Getting Started with Bitwarden – Free Account Setup

Step 1: Create Your Account

  • Visit https://bitwarden.com → Click Get Started
  • Fill in your name, email, and create a strong master password
  • Check your email and verify your account via the confirmation link

Step 2: Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

  • Log in to the Web Vault: https://vault.bitwarden.com
  • Go to SettingsTwo-step Login
  • Choose a 2FA method (e.g., authenticator app or email)
  • Follow prompts to complete setup

Step 3: Install Bitwarden on Your Devices

  • Mobile App: Download via App Store or Google Play
  • Browser Extension: Available for Chrome, Firefox, Edge
  • Desktop App: Optional for Windows, Mac, Linux

Step 4: Import or Save Your Passwords

  • Add logins manually, or
  • Import from another manager (supports Chrome, LastPass, 1Password, etc.)
